A Royal Visit

When playing on the grounds of ‘Iolani Palace, it is hard not to conjure images of what it was like when the band would perform for the monarchs of Hawai‘i during the 1800's. This past Friday imagining those performances was made easier when Abigail Kinoiki Kekaulike Kawānanakoa, who is the great-grandniece of King David Kalākaua, came to the Palace to attend one of the band's weekly Friday concerts. Afterward, she greeted the band and thanked the members personally for the work they do in perpetuating this aspect of Hawaiian culture. She was even gracious enough to pose for pictures!
