Mark Miyamoto

Bass Trombone

Born and raised in Hawai‘i, Mark Miyamoto graduated from Mililani High School and attended the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Music Education. While at UH he studied with Mike Becker and Jim Decker of the Honolulu Symphony and has participated in masterclasses with Jay Friedman, David Finlayson, and the American Brass Quintet. He was Principal Trombone with the UH Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra and performed with the UH Jazz Ensemble.

Mark has taught as Band Director at Waiakea High, Ka'u Intermediate and High, Aiea High, and Kapolei Middle and was also the low brass instructor at the Pacific Music Institute. He performed with the Royal Hawaiian Band (as a part-time musician), Hawai‘i (Honolulu) Symphony, Ballet Hawai‘i, Hawai‘i Opera Theater, Honolulu Symphonic Winds, A Touch of Brass Quintet, Honolulu Brass Quintet, and Diamond Head Theater. Most recently, he won the Bass Trombone position with the Royal Hawaiian Band.

Besides performing on the trombone, Mark is a 6 Dan in Kendo and has participated in four World Kendo Championships.
