Flute
Scott joined the Royal Hawaiian Band in February 1987. He is the Principal Flute & Woodwind Specialist. Starting at a young age he has been equally at home on flute, saxophone & clarinet. He received his B.M. & M.M. from the Juilliard School. During his time in NYC he performed with the Radio City Music Hall Orchestra and at jazz clubs Jazzmania, Blue Note and the Village Gate. He is also the former principal clarinet of the Ocean City Pops Orchestra. 1982 he was the winner of the Buddy DeFranco Jazz Clarinet Competition. He toured and recorded as the baritone saxophone soloist with the Afro-Cuban jazz great, Machito. Locally, he was the lead alto saxophone with the Matt Catingub Big Band and is a frequent soloist with many local ensembles, both classical and jazz. He has also played for many Broadway tours in Hawaii such as West Side Story, Book of Mormon and Phantom of the Opera. He performed with stars such as Frank Sinatra, Arturo Sandoval, Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, etc. He also recorded and performed with many of the Hawaiian music greats. Outside of music, Scott is a lifetime member of Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club.
