Yoojin Tsukiyama

Percussion

Dr. Yoojin Tsukiyama earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Composition from Ewha Womens University in Seoul, Korea and moved to the U.S.A. to pursue a Master's and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Percussion Performance from Ohio State University.

After moving back to South Korea in 2001, Yoojin worked as a freelance musician, lecturer, and percussion instructor at Ewha Womens University and Pyung-Taek University.

Yoojin performed eight solo recitals and over 300 percussion/chamber ensemble concerts in Korea, Europe, and the U.S.A. and appeared as a guest soloist for many orchestras and concert bands. In addition, Yoojin was involved with many contemporary music projects with several composers and groups such as prominent composers Tan-Dun, Steve Reich and Ensemble Modern based out of Germany.

Besides being a percussionist with the Royal Hawaiian Band, Yoojin has already taken an active role in the local music scene and has plans to further her role and contributions as a talented musician and educator in the state of Hawai‘i.

Her previous instructors were Dr. Michael Bump, Dr. Michael Udow, Susan Powell and Nancy Zeltsman.
